Exterior Tile Installation
Tile outdoors blurs the line between the inside of your home and the space around it.
We are happy to discuss installing exterior tile. The benefits of tile outdoors are many: mosaic tile, handmade tile, glass or wood-look porcelain all add design and personality, and tile lets you blur the line between the interior of your home and the space outside.
The design and application possibilities outdoors are almost as endless as they are indoors. Tile pavers can be installed on grass, sand or gravel for a unique look and a practical application, and do not require grout. Handmade tile adds flair and personality, as do mosaics and glass tile. Porcelain can imitate natural stone and marble, giving a timeless look with durability for generations and minimal maintenance.
Not every tile belongs outside
Because tile is made from natural materials, many tiles perform well outdoors, and added technologies like inkjet printing and slip-resistant surfaces make tile even more usable outside. That said, not all tiles are made for exterior use and extra consideration is needed when shopping.
As always we recommend a locally owned tile distributor over a big-box store — you get access to people who are more invested in your success when it comes to choosing the correct quality tile. We are happy to consult with you on your tile choices.
Detail matters more outdoors
Exterior installations need extra care. Additional expansion joints are required, because outdoor tile heats up quickly in the sun and cools rapidly in exposed night and winter conditions. Proper drainage has to be planned for, especially anywhere temperatures drop below freezing.
