Civic Basin
A monumental frontage read across water and a very large number of trees.
A long institutional building closes the head of a formal park. In front of it a lit basin, planted parterres and a broad stair sequence step down towards the viewer, framed by two curving retaining walls.
The tree canopy is the real work here: enough individually finished trees, in enough different greens, to give the park a season and a scale. The water is worked so that the building's reflection holds up under a camera rather than only under the eye.
