Museum Wing
Old masonry and a new glazed hall, lit so the join is the first thing you see.
A classical institution with a colonnaded entrance and skylit galleries gains a long glazed hall along one flank and a low stone wing at the corner, stepping down to a new public forecourt.
The historic fabric is carved: cornices, pilasters, window reveals and roof lanterns all present. The addition is lit from within so that at night the two buildings separate cleanly — which is exactly the question the model was built to answer.
